Florida State Hospital patient dies of COVID-19, medical examiner's office says
A patient at Florida State Hospital who was diagnosed with COVID-19 has died, according to the District 2 Medical Examiner's office — the first known death tied to the facility.
Fabian Pettiford, 34, was a resident in the Chattahoochee mental health facility, Bradford County court records show.
Last month, a circuit judge extended his stay in the facility's forensic unit after determining he still met criteria for involuntary hospitalization, records show.

Family member Lindsey Pettiford took to Facebook to express her grief late Sunday night.
"Today we lost Fabian Pettiford due to COVID-19, grief is never something easy to experience, it’s unpredictable and unexplainable and as much as we know we must leave our earthly body one day," she wrote. "We still somehow can never prepare ourselves to see a loved one go ... Pray for the Pettiford and Tabor family."
